Lost access to your 2FA device? How to recover your URIports account
Two-factor authentication (2FA) adds an extra layer of protection to your account by requiring a second verification step when signing in. This helps prevent unauthorized access, even if someone knows your password.
Still have your 2FA secret?
If you cannot access your authenticator app but still have the original 2FA secret, you can restore access without contacting support.
The 2FA secret is the setup key that was shown when you first enabled 2FA. It looks something like this:
ABCD EFGH IJKL MNOP
To restore your authenticator:
- Install or open your preferred authenticator app, such as Google Authenticator, Authy, or another compatible app.
- Choose the option to manually add a new account or enter a setup key.
- Enter your 2FA secret.
- Your authenticator app will generate a new six-digit code that you can use to sign in to your URIports account.
Lost your 2FA secret?
If you no longer have access to your authenticator app and do not have your backup code, we can help you regain access.
Before we remove 2FA, we need to verify that you are the legitimate account owner.
Step 1: Contact support from your registered email address
When requesting a 2FA reset, please reply from the email address registered on your account. This helps us confirm that the request is coming from someone with access to the account email address.
Step 2: Prepare account verification details
To verify ownership, please provide the following information.
Your configured domains
Tell us approximately how many domains are configured on your account and provide the names of 3 to 5 of them. You can include a mix of domains, including domains that are not your primary company domain. This helps us match the information with your account records.
One or more billing details
Provide one or more of the following:
- Your most recent invoice number.
- The last 4 digits of the payment method on file.
- The approximate date you signed up.
What happens after verification?
Once we have confirmed the details match your account, we will remove 2FA from your account.
You can then:
- Sign in using your existing password.
- Enable 2FA again from your account settings.
- Store your new backup code somewhere safe.
We recommend saving your backup code in a password manager so you can recover access more easily if you lose your 2FA device again.
What if verification is not possible?
If we cannot confirm account ownership using the available information, we may ask you to complete an additional verification step.
For accounts with configured domains, this may involve adding a verification TXT record to the DNS settings of one of the domains on your account. This confirms that you control the domain and allows us to safely restore access.
Why do we require verification?
Removing 2FA reduces the security of your account, so we need to make sure the request comes from the account owner before making any changes.
These checks help protect your account from unauthorized 2FA resets while still allowing legitimate users to recover access when they lose their authentication device.
